Ms. Caroline Edelstam, President of the Edelstam Foundation and granddaughter of Ambassador Harald Edelstam, was honored to meet with the President of Chile, Mr. Gabriel Boric Font, during his visit to Stockholm. During the meeting, they discussed shared commitments to human rights and justice, the shrinking space for democratic principles and human rights around the world, and the importance of sustainable leadership. We look very much forward to our collaboration in advancing the human rights agenda on a global level.
Also participating in the meeting were Mr. Alberto van Klaveren Stork, Chile’s Minister of Foreign Affairs; Decan Joakim Palme, son of Sweden’s former Prime Minister Mr. Olof Palme; and Mr. Tucapel Jiménez Fuentes, Chile’s Ambassador to Sweden.
After the meeting, President Boric visited the tomb of Mr. Olof Palme, paying respects to the deeds of the Swedish Prime Minister renowned for his solidarity with Chile following the coup in 1973.
Further, Ms. Caroline Edelstam, President of the Edelstam Foundation and granddaughter of Ambassador Harald Edelstam, was honored to visit the Swedish Parliament, Riksdag, with the President of Chile, Mr. Gabriel Boric Font, during his official visit to Stockholm, invited by the Speaker of the Swedish Parliament, Mr. Andreas Norlén.
During their visit, they paid homage to Ambassador Harald Edelstam and visited the bust of Harald Edelstam , a gift from the Chilean Government in 2016, symbolizing the enduring legacy of his courageous actions and his actions saving more than 1500 persons during and after the Coup in Chile in 1973, in the Room of Good Deeds in the Riksdag.
